What are Daylong Tournaments?
Daylongs are a new type of robot tourney where you get up to 24 hours
to complete your game. You can register, play at your own pace, leave
the table, then resume the game any time during the day without losing
your results. You'll get the final results the next day in a BBO mail.
Each table consists of a single human player, sitting South, and three
robot players sitting in the other three seats.
Game Variations
There are different types of Daylong tournaments.
- MP daylongs are scored in MP.
- IMP daylongs are scored in IMP.
- Just Declare daylongs have predealt, prebid hands with
players as declarers always. Just Declare Daylongs are not Best Hand.
- Multi-day survivor daylongs
- Multi-session daylongs
BBO Daylong Tournaments
BBO Daylongs are 8-board long and cost a small entry fee in BB$. They use advanced robots and award BBO
Points if you do well. With no cap on the number of players,
the BBO points awarded are much higher than in other
tournaments.
What is "Just Declare"?
Just Declare is a special game format that tests declarer ability to
the utmost. You are the declarer in every board, with hands predealt
and prebid by robots. Play your best, your result is duplicated. Just
Declare tournaments are Not Best Hand.
Free Daylong Tournaments
- We offer one Free Daylong every day (alternating between game
formats). The Free Daylong uses basic robots and does not award BBO
Points.
- Free multi-session daylong events are also available every
weekend. Look for the Free Weekend Survivor, or the Free 2-Day Weekend
Evente very Saturday.
- On Sundays, you can play the Free Super Sunday Daylong, which is open for registrations the entire week.
Tournament features
- Most daylongs are Best Hand:
The human player receives the hand with the most high-card points at
the table or tied for the most high-card points. (Best-hand is defined
solely by high-card points and does not take into account hand pattern.)
- All daylongs are Human Declares: The human player declares for his robot partner when their side wins the contract.
- Daylongs may utilize Deal Pools: Not everyone will be dealt the same boards. This is a security measure.
ResultsA provisional
leaderboard is available while the game is in progress, in the list of
Completed tournaments. Your final results will be sent to your BBO
Mailbox or they can be accessed in Recent Tournaments, in the History
tab, after the Daylong is completed.
About the robots
The robots used on BBO are called GIB (Ginsberg's Intelligent
Bridgeplayer). You can find out more about GIB's bidding system by
clicking here.
The GIBs used in BBO play a relatively simple and natural 2/1 bidding
system. You can find out the meaning of any bid by clicking on that bid
as it appears in the bidding diagram. Furthermore, when it is your turn
to bid, moving your mouse over the buttons for the various possible
bids will cause an explanation of the bid you are considering (as your
GIB partner will understand it) to be displayed. These explanations can
be somewhat cryptic, but reading them carefully before you bid will
help you to avoid misunderstandings with your GIB partner.
