Are You an Expert? |
How to accurately describe bridge ability |
What makes an expert bridge player?
The answer to all of those questions is "No" Even if you answered "yes" to all the questions, that can't be relied upon to determine that a player is an expert. Fortunately, we have guidelines our players can read and follow to determine bridge expertise (or lack thereof). Following these guidelines when describing your bridge ability will help you in your games and your bridge relationships and reputation here on Bridge Base Online. Consider this: Suppose you mark yourself as an "Expert" bridge player and are asked to play a game. After a few hands it becomes obvious that you are really not what BBO guidelines declare an expert bridge player to be. Imagine what the person who invited you now thinks of you. But consider this: Suppose you mark yourself as an "Intermediate" and are playing in a game with the same person or where the same person is kibitzing. He notices your play and thinks to himself "wow, this isn't an intermediate player, he's at least advanced." With the second scenario your reputation just got a giant boost. With the first scenario your reputation on BBO plummeted. In the spirit of the game, to enhance your good name on BBO, to add to your popularity and honor, we are asking you to now take a minute to review the guidelines for assessing your skill level. If you find you do not qualify as a World Class player or an Expert player, it will be to your benefit to change your skill level on your profile to what is appropriate for you. Here are those guidelines: Private This indicates you do not wish a skill level to be displayed when people view your profile information. Novice Someone who has recently learned to play bridge.
